MUCHAS MARKETS: INDIE MARKET ROUNDUP
Ever doubt St. Petersburg is a hub for indie markets?
There are three this weekend alone.
The Film and Funky Flea kicks the weekend off on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. at Calusa Commons, at First Avenue S and 22nd Street. Hosted by Cinema Squatch, this market features a screening of the B movie Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter. Vendors include Bluebird Books, Anchor Skate Supply, hats shown left, and Refashioned Apparel and Home Decor. Black Crow Coffee Roasting will be slinging the beverages, and Urban Brew and BBQ provides the eats.

The O.G. of local indie markets, St. Pete Indie Market, happens Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Green Bench Brewing (1133 Baum Ave. N) with its trademark eclectic selection of makers and artists, including plush monsters by Poopy Doops and cross-stitch creations by the Indigo Owl. There will be food trucks and, of course, beer from Green Bench.

Just down the street on Saturday is the Grand Central Market, held at Punky’s Bar and Grill (3063 Central Ave.) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This market features art, antiques and collectibles. …

"Smack Crossed Lovers," Hardison Collins' homage to Sid and Nancy, will be available at the Rock and Roll Swap Meet on March 26.

MUSICAL MARKET: ROCK AND ROLL SWAP MEET
If you love rock ‘n’ roll, or any music really, this event Sunday at Cage Brewing in St. Petersburg is for you. The Rock and Roll Swap Meet will not only have nine bands performing, including Car Bomb Driver, Pretty Voices and Mondo Diablo, but there will also be vendors selling vinyl, CDs, books and memorabilia. The event isn’t really a swap meet, so no trading, but more of an indie market that includes Daddy Kool Records, WMNF Community Radio and Planet Retro Records as vendors. If you’re in the market for some rockin’ art, they’ve got you covered there too, including Hardison Collins’ large-scale pop art “EyeHurts,” like the one of Sid and Nancy that’s pictured. There’s a $5 cover charge, but I’d say for nine bands and tons of cool stuff, that’s a deal. Oh yeah, and you can grab a nice cold beer (or a few) at Cage Brewing, 2001 First Ave. S. The event runs from 2-7 p.m. …

Katy Perry's rainbow-colored shoe line is giving us life

Katy Perry's "Hillary," a shoe named after Hillary Clinton. $139.

Katy Perry's "Hillary," a shoe named after Hillary Clinton. $139.

Did you know Katy Perry had a shoe line? It doesn't really matter. Everyone has a shoe line. My cat has a shoe line (it's kind of rote, to be honest, but she doesn't get out much).

However, in the saturated realm of celeb shoe lines, Katy Perry's new collection is exceedingly on-point. The collection dropped in February, and the headline-making design has been one named for Hillary Clinton, pictured above (Perry is a noted supporter). But if you get past that political nugget, you enter a vast wonderland of multicolored foot confections. The styles, many of which are named after Perry's famous friends, are available at Macy's and online. I'll take ten!

Some highlights:

The Stella, $139

The Kate, $115

The Carmen, $139

The Perry, $149

The Richie, $169

The Jackie, $169

The Margot, $100

The Shannon, $129

The Geli, $49

Find your perfect shade of green to wear on St. Patrick's Day

It's St. Patrick's Day tomorrow, so you better wear something green or you'll get pinched! Not everyone can carry off the shamrock green associated with St. Paddy's, but there is a shade of green for everyone. Color consultant Jill Kirsh, "Hollywood's Guru of Hue," has suggestions on which green is right for you, which she bases on hair color. Find your celebrity doppelganger below to learn which green to go with.

Warm blondes like Margot Robbie have more fun in Kelly green.

Deep brunettes like Taraji P. Henson rock emerald green like a boss.

While golden browns like Jennifer Lopez or redheads like Emma Stone can easily pull off a variety of greens, olive is the most flattering for those tones, according to Kirsh.

Helen Mirren is a great example of how fresh mint green is on ash blondes, platinum and grey hair.

Now that you've found your ideal hue, you're St. Paddy's Day ready. And you don't have to lie and say that you're wearing green underwear to avoid getting pinched. …

Tip Your Hat: Mad Hatter’s Masquerade
ARTpool knows how to throw an art party, and they say that the Mad Hatter’s Masquerade Ball is the fanciest of the year. The event Saturday in St. Petersburg has a lot going on: an art show, video art presentation, body art and a fashion show featuring unique hats, masks and custom couture from local designers. Don’t expect to see some ordinary fedoras going down the runway; it’s much more Eyes Wide Shut, with a Venetian, dark fantasy theme. Guests are encouraged to dress up, as there will be a costume contest. All attendees must wear a hat or a mask to get in. The party runs from 8 p.m. to midnight. $15, $25 VIP. artpoolgallery.com. …

Party Arty: Trashy Treasures at DFAC
Trashy Treasures, the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s “art garage sale, ” is so much more than that. Yes, you can shop the donated art, books, frames and supplies on Saturday, but Friday night’s event elevates it to a fringe arts festival. This year’s theme is Steamy Punk, and people are encouraged to dress up in more adult-oriented interpretations, and enter a costume contest with prizes. $10 gets you into the party, which begins at 6 p.m. where there will be cash bars, music and everyone gets a free hot dog and drink. Guests can also bid on the best of donated items, culled by the staff of the DFAC, in a silent auction. The garage sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday is free to attend. 1143 Michigan Blvd. (727) 298-3322. dfac.org. …

Shopping Planner: 321 Books, Shop St. Pete and more

Thousands of books for $3 and under will be available at the grand opening of 321 Books at Tyrone Square mall this weekend.

Thousands of books for $3 and under will be available at the grand opening of 321 Books at Tyrone Square mall this weekend.

Literary Rescue: 321 Books Grand Opening
Tyrone Square mall hasn’t had a bookstore since Borders closed years ago. True, Barnes and Noble is just across the street, but being that I’m old enough to remember when every mall had a bookstore, this was sad to me. Now those pangs can dissipate because 321 Books is opening in a 10,000-square-foot space at Tyrone Square on Friday. The company is one of Amazon’s largest used-book sellers, operating out of a warehouse in Clearwater. They find books cheap at thrift stores and receive donations. As a result, no book is priced more than $3, and they have a trade-in deal where you get a book for every two you bring in of the same type. Beyond books, they’ll also sell CDs, DVDs, records, school supplies and more. Read more about 321 Books here. They open at 10 a.m. Friday, in Tyrone Square mall (6901 22nd Ave. N, St. Petersburg), in the space that the Gap previously occupied, near JCPenney. …
