Osher Lifelong Learning Institute has big plans for summer

Lifelong learners: Get out your calendars

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Eckerd College recently released the catalog of its summer offerings. On the agenda from May through August are dozens of classes, talks, day trips (Pinellas Chocolate Company, anyone?) and more for people 50 and older.

An OLLI membership ($49 annually) is not required for most courses and events, but nonmembers will pay a little more.

Classes cover a range of topics, from "The History of Spring Training" and "Vanishing Eden: A Century of Changes to Florida's Mangrove Coast" to "Carole King and Her Tapestry of Song," "Finding Common Ground in a Time of Alternative Facts and Parallel Universes" and "Archeoastronomy: Prehistoric Astronomical Structures." They take place primarily at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg, and the Centre of Palm Harbor, 1500 16th St.

National Theatre Live also returns, with broadcasts of Twelfth Night, Peter Pan and Angels in America. Related talks are planned for the National Theatre Encore Series presentations. (Talk prices vary.) Tickets to the broadcasts are $22 for OLLI members and $25 for nonmembers at livehdstpete.com.

New this summer is the TED Cinema Experience, in which TED2017: The Future You will be screened in three parts at Eckerd College's Miller Auditorium. Tickets cost $22 for OLLI members and $25 for nonmembers at eckerd.edu/olli/ted, and packages are available.

Register for classes at eckerd.edu/olli/register or (727) 864-7600. A free one-time guest pass for a single class is available. See the complete catalog at tbtim.es/catalog.
