The story of a missing Clearwater boy will be featured next week on Disappeared, a documentary television series highlighting cold cases.

Zachary Bernhardt, an 8-year-old boy, vanished from his family's apartment on Drew Street in September 2000. His mother went for a walk around the apartment complex about 4 a.m. and when she returned, her son was gone.

The episode will air May 21 at 9 p.m. on Investigation Discovery. Bernhardt's story will be featured along with the cold cases of other missing children, to commemorate National Missing Children's Day on May 25.

In the past 16 years, dozens of detectives have worked to find Bernhardt, chasing hundreds of leads without success. Last year, billboards were put up in Pinellas County featuring an aged photo of Bernhardt, asking for tips in the case, which is still open.

Bernhardt's case remains one of only a few unsolved missing child cases in Pinellas County.
